Living in Textures

In my opinion, you can never own or wear too much velvet. It's the texture in which I would happily forever live. And to be quite honest with you, I have every intention of doing just that. The other day I was having a conversation with my friend, Ashley, asking her about what color she thought best represented me, and she responded that she only sees me in terms of texture, not solely flat colors. It's funny, I had never really thought of that before, but now that she has brought it to my attention, I'm realizing how right she was. I am so drawn to something by the tactile appearance of its surface. I'm absolutely forever inspired by color, but always accompanied by texture. It's the combination of the two for me that transmits magic. And that's why velvet is my favorite. What it does to colors, and the variations in color that it grants, is what makes the fabric so alluring to me. You're presented with the deepest tones of a color, and all of a sudden when the light hits it, it shines in the brightest, most saturated of ways.

So when Behind the Glass, my favorite shop in Auburn, approached me to style some of their pieces, I couldn't help but to choose from their incredible selection of velvet for this look. This top very nearly brought me to tears when I unwrapped it. The rich tone of marigold instantly had me in a trance imagining the court of King Henry VIII and the garments they must have worn. When styling, I love to combine the periods of time by which I'm inspired, which is why I chose to mix a top I associated with the 16th Century with a floral embroidered mini skirt reminiscent of the 1960s. To add a slight variation in texture, I added a wide leather belt to the mix and gold metallic platform clogs. One of my favorite pieces from BTG is this incredible emerald green necktie. I think its lends such a nice detail and color to the look. I'm excited to play with this piece and all of the ways it can be styled. And the cherry on top of all of this is that Behind the Glass is currently offering 20% off their online shop with the code HANNAH20. Right in time for the holidays. Happy shopping!
